PROCEDURE FOR TRACKING MEMBERSHIP LEVELS
 AND EXTENUATING CIRCUMSTANCES

Please keep track of your LMTA involvement on the form provided in your Yearbook. Submit the completed form to the Membership Committee before June 30th.  Programs of student involvement in schools, hospitals, nursing homes, etc. may be sent along with the completed activity form from the Yearbook at the end of the year.  Refer any questions to the Membership Committee Chair.

To achieve professional status, members must have completed the following in the year prior to designation:

    1. LMTA Sponsored Events (3 required per year).  Members must sign in at all LMTA sponsored events to receive workshop or meeting continuing education credits.  The Membership Committee will check attendance sheets for compliance.
    2. Enter one or more students in LMTA events or NMTA Festival.
    3. Committees.  Committee chairs are responsible for submitting the names of their members to the membership compliance committee by the end of the fiscal year.
    4. Compliance.  Compliance monitors will forward membership activity and status to the Membership Chair.
    5. Once membership levels are determined, those members who are paid up by June 30th of each year will have their membership status published in the LMTA Yearbook (membership directory) and LMTA Brochure which will be made available to the public.  The website will be updated as necessary.  The names of members who have attained professional status will be included in telephone information given out to the public.

Extenuating Circumstances

  1. Music-related workshops may qualify for the meeting/workshop requirement if a member is unable to attend LMTA sponsored events (must be approved by the membership committee).
  2. Professional involvement in another music organization will automatically qualify a member for professional status for one year while working toward requirements.
  3. Professional members who are full-time masters or doctoral music students may waive committee and student performance requirements.
  4. Any college course in music may complete the meetings/workshops requirement for a member already engaged in music teaching as a professional.
  5. Extended major illness of the member or a family member is an
extenuating circumstance in which the member may waive workshops, committee
    and/or student participation.
  6. Contact the membership committee regarding other extenuating circumstances.
