Dr. Linda Christensen to speak on Recreational Music Making on a Cruise Ship

Dr. Linda Christensen will present “Piano Teaching on the High Seas: Recreational Music Making in a Vacation Setting” at a Lincoln Music Teachers Association (LMTA) meeting scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 13, 2013, at Grace Lutheran Church, 2225 Washington Street, Lincoln, Nebraska. Christensen will relate her experiences teaching group piano and private lessons to senior citizens while touring the world on a cruise ship from January 18 to April 21, 2012. The cruise company, Crystal Cruises, in partnership with Yamaha, had a piano lab on board that accommodated up to 20 keyboards. The 94-day long cruise was broken up into 5 segments: LA to Sydney; Sydney to Singapore; Singapore to Hong Kong; Hong Kong to Osaka; and Osaka to LA. Guests could purchase one or more segments or the entire World Cruise.
Christensen teaches Group Piano, Private Piano, and Music Technology at Wayne State College, where she also serve as Department Chair. She is a frequent presenter for national and international conferences including MTNA, NCKP, and WPTA.
LMTA, a nonprofit organization, provides continuing education for members and regularly sponsors events to enhance student learning and performance.
