LMTA Members who met continuing education and participation requirements last year were acknowledged with a certificate of appreciation at the LMTA Kickoff Potluck on August 19, 2017 at Fellowship Community Church. Dr. Sergio Ruiz, Director of the Glenn Korff School of Music and Professor of Music at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, was the keynote speaker for the continuing education component of the meeting.

There are six categories of LMTA membership: Professional, Entry, Supporting, Collegiate Faculty, Collegiate Student, Retired, and Honorary.

Professional members are engaged in any field of music activity and have met the following requirements in the previous calendar year: 1) attended at least three continuing education worshops/meetings; 2) entered one of more students in at least one LMTA-sponsored event, and 3) served on one or more LMTA Committees. Teachers who wish to be active in the LMTA Music Outreach Program which serves children who could not otherwise afford lessons must maintain LMTA Professional Membership.

Entry members are first-year members working toward LMTA Professional or Supporting status. Supporting membership is open to all persons interested in teaching of music and in the purposes of LMTA. Collegiate Faculty are professionally engaged in teaching at the collegiate level and volunteer to facilitate LMTA workshops at least once every three years. Collegiate Students are actively engaged in developing their teaching skills. Honorary membership is limited to those who have given distinguished service to LMTA and the community and are selected by the LMTA Board.

Members in all categories, except Honorary, have the right to vote, hold office, serve on committees and enter students in local, state and national events. Collegiate members, however, may not enter students in national competitions nor apply for MTNA national certification.

LMTA members are also members of its State and National affiliates, NMTA [Nebraska Music Teachers Association] and MTNA [Music Teachers National Association]. LMTA welcomes teachers from all disciplines, and specifically seeks string teachers for their Music Outreach Program.
