Music Conference and State Level of National Competitions to be held at Nebraska Wesleyan University

The 2017 Nebraska Music Teachers Association [NMTA] State Conference and state level of the Music Teachers National Association [MTNA] Competitions will be held on Thursday and Friday, October 12 and 13, at Nebraska Wesleyan University. Marvin Blickenstaff, nationally famous teacher, lecturer, publisher and performer, will be the Guest Artist/Clinician. He will present three sessions dealing with pedagogy and interpretation, and conduct a master class with the MTNA Competition Winners. Michael Stephens, composer, and Professor of Music at Chadron State College, will present this year’s NMTA commissioned composition. Also included in this year’s registration fee is a ticket to the Lied Center for Performing Arts on Thursday, October 12, to see the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra with Pianist Andre Watts.
Other sessions include “Phillip Glass at 80” by Dr. Paul Barnes, “The Science of Learning and the Art of Practicing” by Ruth Meints. Jonathan Sokasits will discuss the Landler, German Dances and Polkas from Classical and Folk Traditions. There will also be a question/answer round table discussion on the private music studio with NMTA member panelists Dr. Paul Barnes, Regina Carnazzo, Charlotte Heermann, and Paul Parker.
