Paola and Rocio Izaguirre, students of Jo Riecker-Karl, played a duet at last year’s Barnes and Noble Fundraiser.

Music Students of Lincoln Music Teachers Association (LMTA) members will play from 1:00 to 5:00 PM at the Barnes and Noble Bookstore at SouthPointe Pavilion, 2910 Pine Lake Road, Lincoln, Nebraska on Sunday, February 11 to raise money for the LMTA Music Outreach Program (LMTA-MOP).

Barnes and Noble will donate a percentage of all sales made at this store on Feb 11 for those who identify themselves as friends of LMTA. Online sales will also qualify for the donation from February 11th to February 15. Go to www.bn.com/bookfairs and use Bookfair ID 12326823.

LMTA is a nonprofit organization of independent music teachers and college faculty whose primary objective is to provide educational and performance opportunities for their member teachers and students. The Music Outreach Program is administered by a nine-member volunteer committee of LMTA teachers, partnering with local music stores, piano tuners and businesses. Chet’s Moving and Storage houses donated MOP pianos and delivers them to student’s homes free of charge. Dietze Music donates free print music for MOP students. The Violin Shop, Capital City Strings and CGSmusic repair stringed instruments as needed and provide reduced-cost rental instruments for string students. Scott Kerns evaluates donated pianos, and Morgan Cowell and Dan Adkins provide free or reduced tuning.

Presently, a maximum of 50 students are being served by 14 LMTA professional teachers who have met continuing education criteria. The annual cost of lessons for an individual student is approximately $850. The LMTA Music Outreach Program [LMTA-MOP] is supported in part by grants from the Nebraska Arts Council & the Nebraska Cultural Endowment, the Lincoln Community Foundation, the Pearle Francis Finigan Foundation, the Cooper Foundation, the Harris Foundation, Viking Foundation, Woods Realty, large donations from General Dynamics, Elks Lodge #80, LMTA Fundraisers plus other private donations.
